Grade 8 STAAR test information

As you may know our students will take the grade 8 STAAR test on Monday, March 26. A break down of the topics to be covered on the STAAR test may be found below. Also, the example questions that TEA released may be found here. Please also note that additional resources that the students may use are Reflex Math (To practice some basic skills that sometimes prevent some students from successfully completing math problems) and Measuring up. They may see me for their reflex math log in if they don't already know it. The Measuring up log in may be filled in as following. If the students real name were "John Smith" their log in is "JOHNSMITH" and their password is their student id number.

Studying is required

Please remember that the study log will be counted as a grade. Remember that studying is required and fundamental to success in math. Also homework does not count as studying. Studying is additional work done for the purpose of understanding the underlying principles behind the concepts being taught. recall that you were given a study log to help both you and your parents keep track of how much, how often, and what you study. If you misplaced it you may print a copy here.

Multiple representations of scenarios

Today we generated multiple descriptions (verbal, equation, graph, and table) of a real world scenario. The homework for tonight was to create a verbal, equation, table, and graph description for the following scenario: "To fix a car, Joe’s Garage charges a base fee of $25 and $40 per hour "

Writing equations

Today we wrote equations from problem situations by analyzing the key words and ideas in them. We ended with the following homework assignment : "Wade's small bathtub will hold 15 gallons of water. If the tub drains at a constant rate of 3.5 gallons per minute, write an equation that can be used to find g, the number of gallons of water in the bathtub after 2 minutes."

Another good project

I wanted to share this student example. I thought it was well done. This student had some typos, but they will fix it and I will show the corrected version.
